This contest is void where prohibited by law.
1. How To Enter The Contest:
a. Participant must complete all fields of the entry form, with up to three photos and up to 200 word description
b. One entry per household. Multiple entries will not increase the odds of winning and may be subject to disqualification.
2. Eligibility:
a. Contestants must be legal residents of the U.S. and 18 years or older at time of participation.
b. Employees of Hickory Daily Record/BH Media, Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows, Hickory Park Furniture, The Lighting Place, Designing Women, and their immediate families, and their respective distributors, affiliates, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotional agencies are NOT ELIGIBLE.
c. Void where restricted or prohibited by law.
d. Contest entrants must own and reside in the residence containing the contest entry kitchen and the residence must be within a 60 mile radius of Carolina Home & GardenShow/Hickory Mart Shows. (2220 U.S 70, Hickory, NC 28601)
e. Eligible Room (living room, bedroom, den or office room) may not be larger than 150 square feet, excluding dining or eating space.
3. Prizes:
a. One winner will receive a room makeover (living room, bedroom, den or office room). See item 7 for details.
b. Contest winner will be announced on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
c. All prizes will be awarded at the Carolina Home & Garden Show on Saturday, March 8, 2014.
d. Must agree to appear at the Carolina Home & Garden Show on March 8, 2014 if named as one of ten finalists
e. No transfer, substitution or cash equivalent for prizes will be allowed
f. Potential winner(s) will be required to execute a Liability Release. If the potential winner fails to complete the document at the time s/he picks up the prize, is found to be ineligible or does not comply with the Official Rules, then the potential winner will be disqualified.
g. All federal, state, or other tax liabilities (including income taxes) arising from this contest will be the sole responsibility of each winner.
h. Except where prohibited by law, the winner’s entry and acceptance of the prize constitutes permission for the Contest Entities to use said winner’s name, initials, photograph, likeness, statements, biographical information, voice, and city and state address on a worldwide basis, and in all forms of media (including digital), in perpetuity, without further compensation.
4. Selection of Winners:
a. All decisions made by the Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows management with respect to contests are final.
b. 10 finalists will be chosen by Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows and the Hickory Daily Record based on the submitted photos and description, plus evaluation of the scale and suitability of the project. Final winner will then be selected by public vote through Hickory Daily Record official contest page (found at hickoryrecord.com/roommakeovercontest). Persons shall only be allowed one vote per day of voting period.
5. Contest Conditions:
a. This Contest is subject to all federal, state and local laws. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the Contest or these Official Rules. Winners and entrants also agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows from and against any claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages, or losses to any person, including death, or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in this Contest.
6. Limitations of Liability:
a. Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows is not responsible for lost, late, misdirected, undeliverable, or incomplete entries. Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Showsmay prohibit an entrant from participating in the Contest or winning a prize if, in its sole discretion, it determines that said entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest by cheating, deception, or other unfair playing practices or intending to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other entrants or Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows representatives. Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows is not responsible for lost entries due to telephonic or electronic malfunctions. If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned as a result of any causes beyond the reasonable control of Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows including but not limited to tampering, unauthorized intervention or fraud which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest, then, Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest.
7. Prize Description: One winner will receive the following Room Makeover package.
$8000.00 approximate retail value (ARV)
• Furnishings from Hickory Park
• Lighting and accessories from The Light Place
• Design Services from Sally Bentley of Designing Women
• Paint and window treatments provided through the Carolina Home and Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows
Total ARV of Prize Package: $ 8,000
The specifics of all aforementioned elements of the prizes in the Promotion shall be solely determined by the Carolina Home & Garden Design/Hickory Mart Shows Team.
The Carolina Home & Garden Show/Hickory Mart Shows Design Team will have the final say regarding the specifics of all aforementioned elements of the prize. The winner’s requests and preferences will be taken into consideration. The winner will meet with Sally Bentley and her team from Designing Women to enable them to create a plan for the room makeover. Using information provided by the winner, the Design Team will create the surprise room makeover.
All costs, taxes, fees, and expenses associated with any element of any prize not specifically addressed above are the sole responsibility of the respective Winner. All federal, state and local taxes on prizes are the prize Winner's responsibility. Winner will be issued a 1099 tax form for the actual value of the respective prize. Prizes cannot be transferred, substituted, or redeemed for cash except at Sponsor's sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute the prize, or portions thereof, with a prize of equal or greater value.
Winners will be awarded at the Carolina Home & Garden Show on March 8th, 2014. If a winner is unreachable after seven (7) days, or if that winner is unavailable for prize fulfillment at the Carolina Home & Garden Show, another winner finalist will be selected. If the Hickory Daily Record cannot find an eligible winner for the prize, that prize will not be awarded.
8. Use of Email Address
By participating in this contest, each user who registers with the site agrees to opt-in to receive e-mail communications from the Hickory Daily Record and its affiliated deals program NC Daily Deals. If those registered users choose to opt out of future communications from the Hickory Daily Record, they will be able to do so by following the instructions on any electronic communications sent by the Hickory Daily Record or NC Daily Deals. Upon opting-out, the Hickory Daily Record will no longer send e-mail messages to that user. A user’s choice to opt out will not affect their ability to participate in or win this contest.
Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
Automated voting of any kind is not allowed. Detection of said automated voting will lead to votes being voided.
Only one registered account per voter. If multiple accounts are detected for a single voter, they will be disabled and votes disqualified.
Hickory Daily Record reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value.
